It’s been over a week since CMW 2012 came to end and still, status updates, blog posts and tweets are overflowing with videos and reviews about the week’s events, and it’s no surprise; Canadian Music Week really brought it this year, booking out hundreds of venues and instantly filling them to capacity.
We saw Will Currie and the Country French to kick off the week, followed by Ascot Royals from Brantford, Ontario. Next, incorporating playground equipment and bringing music to a music store, were a couple of offstage shoots with Ben Caplan. To top off our day 4, Jane’s Party serenaded us with gourd maracas and their three guitars inside a quaint furniture store.
Launching the weekend was Mary Stewart, who warmed us up at the Tranzac with a voice that drew anyone in within 5 feet from the doors. Also spotted checking out the night’s events was Graydon James from Graydon James and the Young Novelists.
Saturday night was spent at the Horseshoe Tavern with a line-up that stretched all the way to Spadina, as early as 10:30pm. A couple standing in line flew in all the way from Calgary for the event.
“Yeah, that’s how much we love Zeus, and we just heard Dan Mangan’s also playing so we’re pretty stoked.” They continued to express how relieved they were, that McDonald’s was open all night.
Still, people braved out the long wait; and it’s no wonder, all the performances were worth it. Eight and a Half, Zeus, and Dan Mangan lit up our cameras, and kept the crowd lively all night long.
Now that it’s all over, what are we left with? Ringing ears, tell-all videos, and anticipation for next year’s Canadian Music Week.
